Deacon Tempie D. Beaman is a rostered minister of word and
service in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), a

graduate of Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary ’11 and a life-
long Lutheran. A member of Ascension Lutheran Church, Los

Angeles, she was called to serve as the Executive Director of My
Friends House, Inc., a community organization working to end
hunger and promote healthy living. She retired in 2017. She is a
dynamic speaker and a dedicated educator, who has long been
involved with social ministry and education.

Deacon Beaman has served on several Churchwide and synodical committees, synod
council, and on various boards for community organizations focusing on youth,
education, women and children, and social justice.
Prior to entering ministry, Deacon Beaman worked several years in the corporate arena
as well as establishing a consulting firm to work with faith-based and small non-profits.
Her mission is to use her God-given gifts to “Help People Help Others to Help
Themselves”. She was educated in New York City where she received her BS in Biology
and an MS in Education. Although born in New York City, she has lived most of her adult
life in Los Angeles.
