“Truth At the Well”

Nothing is more obvious in this text than the fact that Jesus shows up in unexpected places, engages unexpected people and does unexpected things. In this text Jesus does the extraordinary thing of intentionally going into a place others of his own community would intentionally avoid, connecting with a person society says he should have nothing to do with, and transforms traumatic past into triumphant testimony. There is in this text, powerful example of a quality of mutuality that heals in ways that charity alone cannot. Ultimately, Jesus says we ” worship in Spirit and in Truth, calling us to a kind of worship that is not just ” contained” within the walls of the temple, but carried within the bodies, hearts and minds, lives of believers.
